Klink and Schultz were just as important a part of Hogan's Heroes as Hogan himself. Just a terrific series. In fact I bought the series on VHS tape years ago and still watch the tapes now and then. Also I was able to write to Larry Hovis (Carter) and Leon Askin (Burkhalter) before they died and received autographed pictures from both of them. Both were genuinely nice guys.

@xXAustralianzOwnXx John Banner escaped, but his family didn't. Most of them died in the camps, and Roberts Clary was in the Buchenwald concentration camp. Read his autobiography if you don't believe it.

You can see John Banner in pre-Hogan as a support actor in the 1950's "The Adventures of Superman." BTW, Leon Askin (Gen'l Burkhalter) also was in that show.

@liberal20111 Neither were, they escaped before the war started. You should read the books based on Hogans Heroes. They give a detailed insight to the backround and life of the characters.

It seems that Schutz became an American citizen after the war or so I thought, noticing that the airline's name is TWA and it might be in an airport somewhere in the States.
