Pride celebrations probably mean more to the gay than most traditional holidays - Christmas, Thanksgiving, or Hanukkah. Pride might resonate with the gay community in a way that most holidays do not resonate with many other ethnic or cultural groups. Pride is an affirmation of a person's deep, heart-felt identity, without the drama and conflict that can occur with other holidays. There usually is no worry about not being able to bring a boyfriend or a girlfriend, or where the boyfriend or girlfriend will sleep, as there can be with major western religious and cultural celebrations, such as Christmas and Thanksgiving. Pride is about respecting oneself, expecting to be treated as an equal, and expecting to be treated with respect in society and in houses of worship.

  • My friend James said it best. One weekend out of the year, I get to stand side by side with people just like me. I get to see the similarities between me and them, and in this way, I am reconnected to humanity. Pride is not really about "pride." That is a misnomer. Pride is really about solidarity. Recognizing that you are part of something good, supportive, and beautiful.

  • Interesting points. Excellent points. I like the idea of solidarity and reconnecting to humanity. The "first pride" (Stonewall) was also about standing up against abuse.

Thank you very much for watching and posting. :-D

  • love this! <3

  • Thank you very much. A compliment from anybody on the 5awesomegays channel is wonderful. :-D

  • Very insightful comments on the Pride Holiday. Thanks for posting them.

Pride for me affords the opportunity to be out on 5th Ave in NYC (the Greenwich Village streets are too crowded), watching my lgbt brothers and sisters being fabulous and revelling in the truth of their lives.

And when i march (only occasionally nowadays), my heart fairly bursts from the love and affection coming from the parade watchers.

It's the greatest high in my life.

    Happy Pride Gary!

  • Thanks for watching and for posting comments. :-D Pride is a real highlight in my year.
