In the warped imagination of some on the left and right, this is a race between two Manchurian candidates, the Vietnam Manchurian candidate and the Muslim Manchurian candidate.

(The Manchurian vibe thrummed today with the scoop by Scott Shane of The Times that military trainers in Gitmo had practiced techniques used by the Chinese Communists during the Korean War to wrest confessions, many false, from American prisoners.)

This presidential race should be about how to fix the scary cascading crises in the country and the world. But as Obama offers himself as an avatar of modernity, the horizon fills with Swift boats against the current, and he is, Gatsby-like, "borne back ceaselessly into the past."

Everything you say is a lie. A white minister would not be arrested for saying that. The only thing David Duke was incarcerated for was tax fraud. There are many examples of white ministers preaching hate - Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson, John Hagee just to name a few. Also theres a misconception that Jeremiah Wright is a racist, nothing he said targets whites or can be construed in such a way. Obama did not attend a muslim school for years on end. You have internet access I suggest you use it.

the choice of words used when they call him a "manchurian candidate" is poor, because the average person would take it as a direct reference to the plot of the 1962 film. It is a reference in some respects: Obama being fostered by higher powers to serve their agenda as the perfect puppet. America is still on a honeymoon with this man. He will recieve considerably less criticism, especially from the mass media, than any president before.

I love how every day Olbermann's competition is the "Worst Person in the World" That day they found the guy who had kept his daughter hostage, raped her for 20 years, and had three insestual kids with her, Billo was the worst person in the world.
