You may be correct. It seems I remember that one son died of TB but also remember that one died in a bombing raid. In any event, it is clear to me that Yoshitaka is the major influence in the Shotokan style that has emerged. However, even that has changed since I was in Japan and not for the best.

i studied shotokan karate do for almost 16 yrs now. and still to this day grand master gichin funakoshi is still influential to me and my practice

The change that that you are referring to has more to do with refinement of the movement. The different groups that emerged after Gichin Funakoshi's death and their seperate evolution clearly indicates how much Funakoshi's Karate had changed. Look at the physical appearence of JkA Shotokan and then take a look at Shotokai. Also take a look at Wado Ryu. You will discover that all share a common root. Indeed his son had a tremendous influence on Shotokan but only on those that were in his group.
