  • @oFILTHYo Haha, cool. :-)

  • @ChristianTarsney haha we just had a speech and debate thing in our school today so ppl can understand what they do...i understand it all now

  • @oFILTHYo ...but it just takes some practice to be able to process and follow this level of speed. It's admittedly a little inaccessible to people who haven't had any exposure to the event, but that doesn't negate its value for the participants. And given that they can understand what's going on, the ability to say more in less time only increases the educational payoff.

  • @oFILTHYo Because competitive debate is built around alternating timed speeches--if the debate is being evaluated based on arguments rather than presentation (which creates a lot of educational value in terms of engendering more rigorous arguments and greater depth of research), then the incentive is always to make more and better-developed arguments in the available speech time. If the judge can't understand it, you don't get credit for the argument...

  • @ChristianTarsney i get what youre saying. but why do they have to say it so fast?

  • @oFILTHYo ...yes? He's making intelligent, articulate arguments that reflect an impressive depth of understanding on international relations issues. Having complex and challenging debates about those sorts of issues seems to me like it has a point...why doesn't it to you?

Also, even if what he was saying wasn't particularly intelligent, you can't have seen very many gay or pointless things for this to be the one that takes the cake in both categories.

  • @ChristianTarsney why not? you think theres a point to it?

  • @oFILTHYo Why?

  • So this is what policy debate is all about... yeah I'm sticking to LD.

  • THIS is why you DON'T let the weaker neg give the 2nr XD
