Released on the Mega Drive/Genesis in 1992 with music by Naoki Kodaka, Super Fantasy Zone is the third entry in Sega's Fantasy Zone series of sidescrolling cute-em-ups (like shoot-em ups, but you may feel more or less sorry about what you just shot, depending on who you are), and sadly the last (besides the unreleased Space Fantasy Zone and the Sega Ages Fantasy Zone remake). It is also the best in my opinion, along with the best music, though the original Fantasy Zone's music is great too. Originally released only in Japan In Europe, we here in the US can now enjoy it via the Wii Virtual Console.
This track, Ya-Da-Ne, is the last level and final boss music, and sounds quite similar to the normal boss music, only better. The rest of the game's music has a more whimsical feel to it, but this has a high energy, high risk, and high reward feel to it. I guess you just can't make good boss music sound whimsical... unless you're Yoshi's Island for the SNES, that is. As a bass player, I want to say that it would make me very happy to be able to play the bass line for this track at the same speed that it's going.
