how do you like the 597 in mag? does it jam often? .. if so how often?
-
@Marcucco in my words if you can shoot a 12 gauge shotgun you can shoot anything and dont care about the kick.

I agree, he should be wearing ear protection, but he doesn't care to.
He's also young and excited and I didn't want to give him the excuse that he didn't hear an instruction (like don't shoot the bird) because he was wearing ear protection.

The early 597's did jam a lot, that one was a later model and the previous owner sent it to the factory for some mod. I never had a problem with it.
The action is a real monster to take apart. Don't open it up if you don't have to.
If the gun is used have a Smith look at it to be sure it was put back together right.
There's 4 recoil springs.
The 597 uses the same "wedge block" mechanism that the 10/22 does to lock the barrel into the action, so the design isn't as accurate as a bolt action.

@A7Delgado Oh man, I'd love to have one of those.
I'd offer to trade my model 70 for it but I'd definitely be getting the best end of that deal.

@kawasaki228 The 1894 in .32 Winchester Special is a fantastic hunting rifle and I don't what the alchemists say. the .32 WS absolutely hits harder then the 30-30.
