Unlike many strictly historical accounts, this documentary reveals something about the values and psychology behind the Great Depression. Since there had been so much faith in businessmen before the stock market crash, those families out of work had to deal with a sense of personal failure as well as economic deprivation. The country needed leadership and only F.D.R. seemed able to supply it. Still, the Depression continued and, as this documentary footage shows, so did the protests. Hughes Rudd narrates.

any explanation for the depression that doesn't at least mention the failure of the federal reserve is as laughable an non-academic explanation. how anyone can't see that the stock market crash was not the primary cause of a TEN YEAR era of pain and suffering makes me wonder. the man in charge of the entire country wanted to tax income over 25,000 dollars at 100%. no wonder it took so long for the economy to recover.
