Institute for American Universities (IAU), Study abroad in Aix-en-Provence and Avignon, FRANCE
The Institute for American Universities (IAU) was founded in 1957 to enable American university students to benefit from an intercultural experience without interrupting their college careers. By offering courses in English alongside French language courses, IAU permitted students of all disciplines to study abroad at a time when foreign study was traditionally reserved for foreign language majors. The Institute is one of the oldest and largest centers for education abroad in Western Europe.
Independently chartered by the Regents of the University of the State of New York, the Institute was established at Aix-en-Provence under the auspices of l'Université d'Aix-Marseille. IAU has been in continuous operation since 1958, hosting more than 12,000 students over the years and successfully transferring academic credit for work completed at IAU to over 500 U.S. colleges and universities.
The Institute for American Universities is governed by a Board of Trustees and is counseled on academic matters by a Board of Advisors. Distinguished members of these boards figure prominently in the American and French communities of higher education.
I was a student at the Institute in 1967-68. This brought back many wonderful memories. Would love to connect with other students from the Calif. State College System who studied in Aix that year.

I was in Avignon in the fall of 2007. Almost all of my best memories from college came out of that semester. Thank you.
