The Island is named after the sea god Mannanan which is why it is often spelled Mann. You see it both ways still.

Not surprising, although it must have happened relatively recently as I am only 41. Maybe I have been influenced by an older stamp collection or I just had old maps with the two n's on it.

Why is it spelled "Man" these days? I am convinced it was "Mann" when I was growing up. I am sure maps used to say "Mann" rather than "Isle of Man".
My grandfather came from the island and my mother was partly brought up there. I have traced my family tree back to people living on the island in the 1560's!

The song is a variation of a traditional song, "Ellan Vannin", Sorry I have no idea of the artist.
