  • I remember when I was real young, people would pop-lock to this and break dance.

  • This was the sound that pretty much redefined hip-hop and R&B music for the next few decades. It was the song's popularity with the African-American community at the time that prompted Soul Train to invite YMO to the show.

  • Did they REALLY play this? Because it sounds exactly as it does on the album.

  • Who did the 1 Dislike

  • RIP, Don Cornelius.

  • Ryuichi Sakamoto was on SOUL TRAIN!

I don't think you understand the point I was making. The electronic beats and computerized rhythms of this song was revolutionary at the time, and became the basis for the kind of electronic beats and rhythms used in R&B and hip hop since.

  • @SnappingTurtle801 Hi(^^)/~ Here's the song list from LP "Yellow Magic Orchestra"(1978) SideA: 1) Computer Game "Theme from the Circus" (1:47) 2) Firecracker (←this is what you've just seen here (4:51) 3) Simoon (6:29) 4) Cosmic Surfin' (4:28) 5) Computer Game "Theme from the Invader" (1:01) SideB 6) Yellow Magic(Tong Poo) (6:18) 7) La Femme Chinoise (5:58) 8) Bridge Over Troubled Music (1:18) 9) Mad Pierrot (4:05)
  • Sakamoto @ 1:20

  • Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure this is called Computer Games.

  • @marc08110 - uh, you might want to check that against Stevie Wonder songs.... where were all mostly synthesized by himself, remember he would appear in concert with like 6 keyboards?

  • @Jagged85 - I don't think this redefined hiphop and R&B for the next few decades. For one this was a "one-off" crossover hit for this group. Every now and then the black dance community will "take to" a great sounding song (like this). There have been others, i.e. Sarah Smile, Pick Up the Pieces, Play That Funky Music, Bennie and the Jets, Philadelphia Freedom, A Fifth of Beethoven, etc etc. Secondly at this time there were only a few hiphop songs.
