How drunk were the stewards? Wild Again should've been brought down to 3rd. He was running sideways down the stretch, leaning on Slew o' Gold. Gate Dancer should've been declared the winner. I've lived by Gate Dancer the past 16 years, I see him every day. He still looks amazing! This race goes down in history as the biggest rob job in racing. Pat Day was all coked up anyway...then he found God?

Paul, those pics are priceless, and I'd love to see them. At the suggestion of poker-pal and ace Herald Examiner handicapper Jerry Antonucci, day after the race I wrote to the LA Times photog (don't remember his name) and requested a print of his great head-on finish-line photo. To his everlasting credit, this worthy mailed me an 11x14 b/w. I framed it, needless to say, and it hangs in my office to this day. PS: I wonder what Jerry is doing now. Anybody know?

yes wild again did pay about $164.00 if you had $2.00 across the board on him
one of the owners paid me bonus's to stay with wild again no matter where he went I should have taken that free breeding offer in writing but I didnt really think about that back then I will see if I can upload some of my pics I have of him they called it "a Day for racing" because Pat Day won some other Races that day as well, I have the program signed by all the riders who won every race that day
