This is me trying to "Beat The Frog" in Manchester. Obviously I'm new to stand up and clearly, haven't got the knack of it*. This post is more for people who read my blog: www.margerrisons.blogspot.com

If you're unaware of the mechanics of a "gong show" then I'll quickly explain:

Three audience members have cards. Each of them sits watching the act. When they're bored by it they hold up their card. Once three cards go up the act in question gets 'honked' off the stage.

Beat The Frog is free and happens every Monday at The Frog And Bucket in Manchester. The atmosphere there is fantastic and I've never had a dull night watching people try their stuff. Actually getting up and trying yourself is even more fun!

Their website is here: www.frogandbucket.com

If you want to perform there I suggest you book way in advance.

The compare for the night is Toby Hadoke. His website is: www.tobyhadoke.com

Keep the faith.

NM

*I've not got the knack, yet. I will get it in the end. I will. I will! One day I will Beat The Frog, then my work will be done.

  • Thanks man. Like your name. Actual flammable piss would be amazing!

  • Thanks! Next time I'll plug the fact I'm going and you can hold one of the cards!

I think I sort of lose control of the audience with my shake hands thing. Also I've talked over the laugh for the fish joke a bit and it ruins it a bit.

  • Is it? I imagine that's a good thing, he's a brilliant stand up. I've posted him walking onstage elsewhere, to a slightly more receptive audience than mine.

I'm not too sure it is obvious I've been watching him actually, but take it as a compliment that you think so.

  • 'tis pretty scary. But equally exciting to do.

    Thanks for the comment.

  • PS - Thanks to the lovely Annabelle for bringing a camera phone to film it on properly and then keeping the massive file in tact for ages.
