From a 1978 show at Meadowbrook. This is Bruce's composition, and I always really liked it. Originally released on the 'Chick, Donald, Walter and Woodrow' album, this clip features Bruce on bari, Dennis Dotson ( I wish I had more of him soloing ), and I believe Birch Johnson on trombone. Also, the wonderful lead work of ex-Chase trumpeter Jay Sollenberger. Enjoy

  • Thanks for posting this. Joe Curiale's arrangement.

If I had a do-over I would have counted it off a bit slower.

    Heck of a band.

    Bruce

Hey Bruce... count off slower? Could it be a little left over from the "higher, louder, faster" days with MF? Looks like Woody was enjoying it, and Dennis and Birch hung on at the 2:37 mark. And heck of a band is an understatement!!

Thank you for the enjoyment of listening to your music.

  • Totally SICK! Bruce has always been one of my favorite sax players. Since I first heard him with MF's bands way back. Thanks

  • @beejay4082 When I first hear you on Stay Loose with Bruce I actively sought out all of your recordings (I have both New York Mary LPs) I was thrilled to meet you when you came to Toronto with Menza years later. I'd love to catch you some time when I'm in Buffalo or hear you again in Toronto.

  • Great writing. Great playing...What a joy...

  • One of my favorite charts of all time!

  • Bruce...always a pleasure to listen to you play!

  • I got the chance to play with Bruce in my HS jazz band a few years back....SOOO GOOOD. He did stuff with that sax that just put the rest of us in awe. We actually forgot to come back in because we were all absolutely stunned

  • Brian:

Very nice, indeed. I also really have always liked this tune, as well as Bruce's playing. Other musicians I recognize in the band: John Riley on drums, Frank Tiberi, Gary Anderson and Joe Lovano on tenor saxes and Bill Byrne on trumpet.
