Taboga Island

Well this is just a small portion of Taboga island, but nice just the same. We stayed at Vereda tropical hotel, highly recommended very accommodating. Taboga island is about 12 miles of the mainland of Panama' 30 to 60 min. on boat depending on how fast it is, pop. 1,000 and about 4.67 sq. miles.
Taboga was discovered by Vasco Nunez de Balboa a conquistador (conquer) he was also credited for the discovery of the Pacific ocean in 1513. The name Taboga is indigenous it means isla de las Flores (island of flower) . In the 17th. century 1666 or 1667 around that time it was the first line of defense against the invading pirate Henry Morgan, yes the very one on the bottle of rum distributed by Bacardi. This man in his time was as brutal and violent as Osama bin Laden and Sadam Hussein are today, now he is treated like a cartoon character thanks to marketing and advertisement . Some of the cannons are still on display , which I will show on still images that took later.

Thanks for sharing Dan. I spent a lot of time there as a kid in the 60s and 70s. Looks very much the same, except the Hotel Taboga appears to be gone. It was situated quite near the strip of sand that floods with the tide. We would watch the tide and play in that same area.
