You know guys, Ford didn't invent cars in the 1920's, they had been around for much longer. He just invented the concept of the Assembly Line and Mass Production. The earliest of practical cars have been around since 1881.

Most of the cars shown were from 1903-1924
the film was shot in the 30s and they mocked the cars as old fashioned.
But an equivilent parade or rally today of cars from the 70s to 80s would not have the same effect.
30 and 40 year old cars are still common on our roads today. the VW Beetle is over 60.

The first self propelled vehicle was created around 1700th century. It was a steam powered tractor used to pull cannons and it was invented by a French man. The first actual car was invented by Mercedes Benz in 1886 in Germany. In 1890 and to 1930s steam cars was the most popular cars and the cars that sold best but then gasoline powered cars became more successful because steam cars became outpowered and expensive

Yes in 1896 they had already been invented!
Germany was the first nation to mass produce automobiles.
Gottlieb Daimler began producing automobiles in 1886.
The Duryea Motor Wagon Company was the first American car manufacturer and they started production in 1895.

The cars are probably UP to the '20s (maybe until filmed, also). London-to-Brighton was a famous yearly tour IIRC.

lol
This video shows cars built pre 1896 at a meeting in London in the 1930's celebrating the banning of the Red Flag Law. More information regarding the Red Flag Law can be found on Wikipedia. My Great Grandmother recalled stories of carrying a lantern between the ages of eight and nine in front of the car to warn pedestrians. She had horrible memories of it in bad weather. Many people believed that the human body if subjected speeds of over 50 mph would die from the various pressures involved.
