Eating H.F.C.S. is basically like eating fat because it bypasses the major regulatory section of sugar metabolism (glycolysis) and gets converted to a fat intermediate. Therefore, HFCS leads to higher levels of fat, which leads to high cholestrol and atherosclerosis.

Sucrose is very easily converted to glucose in the body. If you eat too much too often, the consistent high levels in the blood lead to diabetes.

It's hard to say which one is worse for you but they're both bad in large doses.

Fructose would be directly competing for the hexokinase active site to be converted to F6P, but I've never heard about its allosteric inhibition, but it's possible. Hexokinase is also associated with glucose like you said but it is pretty nonspecific.

While the brain has a higher ratio of hexokinase to glucokinase, hexokinase is ubiquitous in the body; and no matter whether you choose hexo or glucokinase, F6P is a downstream product in glycolysis, so it is bypassing that portion of regulation.

Ok, so just a few few more questions:

Is it affecting hexokinase through allosteric inhibition?

I thought hexokinase was associated with glucose and G6P?

Wouldn't this just affect the brain since hexokinase is the brain's enzyme and glucokinase is the liver's?

Well there is an enzyme that directly converts fructose to F6P so specifically, it's bypassing hexokinase regulation. It still needs to pass the other two regulation points of glycolysis but because it produces such high quanitities of F6P, it produces way more pyruvate (and therefore acetyl-CoA) than it would with just glucose.

Lol. It's hard to tell, but I think Joe was legitimately upset about Lee "The Negotiator" Newton. It's quite hilarious
