This is the first "offical" run of my 15hp Reid engine. This is engine #4477 built in 1909. Loaded up and ready to go to the 2008 Pawnee, Oklahoma steam and gas engine show. I had just replaced the rings with some other used rings I had that were a little better than the ones that I took out. So I had it set to run faster untill the "new" rings had a chance to seat in. I will upload a new video soon of it running at "show speed" ......about 50 RPM. The compression isnt as good as I would like it to be, so I will probably have a new set of rings built this summer.

  • built in 1909, and this is its first run? either its an OLD video, or someone waited a LONG time to test their engine. i suspect its not up to spec with modern engines. i think they should have used it a bit earlier :-D

  • @listepikster Its the first time I ran the engine after dis-assembly and some restoration. until this video it had not ran since the late 1930's. Modern Engines cannot hold a candle to engines built before 1915 when it comes to engineering and craftsmanship. Find an engine that is built today and see if you can bring it back to life 100 years from now with no new parts.

  • @digdug1978 Chevy still makes the 4.3L V6, so that'd be pretty damn easy.

  • hi hat, bass drum and snare :)

  • Is the valve gear mounted in the smaller cylinder like on a steam engine ?

  • @digdug1978 yeah i thought so.. but could not help commenting on the facts, because i found it a bit funny ;-)

    all in good fun :-)

and i agree totaly, i wach these videos of old engines because the fazinate me and i love the craftmanship and sund of an old thumping engine.

and congrats on you engine. nice job. :-)

  • the hole think is bouncing, lol

  • Very cool, it sounds great.

  • Was planing to make up your way this for the show again but can't, little dog is scheduled for surgery. Posted a video response of my little Witte running on kerosene. Hope we get to see you at the next show.

  • Very Nice. You need to put a relief valve on the charge cylinder. If it back fires in to that chamber it can buckle the rod and then it gets ugly. I love the old Reids and have a 12 H.P. myself.
