Enjoy a walk at Akrokorinthos castle, the biggest and the oldest castle of Peloponese in Greece. Akrokorinthos was the high rocky citadel of Korinthos city and it is located at a height of 575 m above the today's Korinthos city (85 km ditant from Athens).
In the old days (around the 8th century B.C.) Aprhodite was the goddess of the city probably under the rules of Bachiades aristocrates. The castle was used to protect the entrance roads to Peloponese since its position permitted the control through the panoramic view as well as the control of the Corinthian and Saronic seas. Later on the citadel was dedicated to God Apollo. It is worthwhile to visti the castle during spring as the location is fully flowered by rare species of flowers and plants (the zone is protected by Natura 2000). A walk to the castle is also ideal for an excellent sight view.
