  • My teacher played this for the class so we'd have a 'debate' & have a ground point to talk about whether we're for or against slavery & woman's rights. This was probably the best thing I have ever heard.

  • This speech is more fun and perhaps powerful when read in a sassy, Southern dialect. The original account of this speech varies significantly from the historically popular "Ain't I a Woman." Sojourner Truth grew up in New York and spoke Dutch until age 9, so she didn't have a Southern dialect. For this reason, I think Kerry Washington's version of the speech is more historically accurate. Although, she read the popular version of the speech she didn't try to read like a Southern born slave.
