  • The conservative mentality that makes abstinence-only education sound reasonable is of the "That which is not prohibited is required" variety....if you teach kids anything other than NOT to have sex, then you're teaching them to have sex. Kids can't handle having options, they think....maybe because they can't handle them either. It's the same kind of mind-set that doesn't get why teaching abstinence rather than condom use in Africa isn't making a dent in the AIDS transmission rate.

  • Totally agree with the vid (and with Rillion12) on abstinence-only approach. Has anybody actually written to the Obama admin about this (or any other policy maker who decides these things?). Gay sex for me was definitely a learning experience. It definitely got easier, and better over time.

  • Man, every time I click on a Dan Savage video I think, "Just this one." And it's never just one.

  • society forces abstibance on girls by calling them sluts. guys aren't taught about abstinance. they're taught to go get some, stupid double standard. men don't have the right to say no and women don't have the right to say yes. I REALLY WISHED THE SEXUAL REVOLUTION WORKED.

  • His argument also applies to drug usage

  • Or rather 300 "NO fucking" million dollars.....

  • It's not "300 fuckin' million dollars", it's 300 "Not-fucking" million dollars. LOL

  • I love what George Carlin said how the anti-abortion right should be naturall allies with the gay community. "Who has less abortions than gays?"

  • I wish Dan was my sex-ed teacher. While mine was completely reasonable, abstinence was endorsed. That doesn't help with a conservative Christian background that shrieks at sexual "sin" (which always includes lust itself!).

  • (continued from below) It's not just about whether you abstain or whether you engage in intercourse and everything else. There are more than 2 options available. For instance, people might decide to engage in oral sex and mutual masturbation only for the time being, until they're ready to deal with the consequences of accidental pregnancy or whatever. Our culture makes kids feel like they have to be virginal saints or they may as well go "all the way", and we need to get rid of this thinking.

  • I completely agree with Dan here... He's also pointed out elsewhere, and I think it's very relevant, that we need to get rid of this notion that vaginal intercourse is the REAL sex and everything else isn't. All sexual relations, from mutual masturbation to oral sex to whatever, is sex. We need to give kids info on all of these things and have them know that certain forms of sex are safer. (continued)

  • I agree with what Dan is saying here. I know that if I'd been shown from the right age how to empower myself sexually rather than being taught that everything related to sex should be repressed until I "marry a woman" I wouldn't have as much crap to sift through.
