First, excuse me my horrible english, it sucks, I know. Is a never ending work in progress.

I always wanted to make a NIN video and this is my chance to make one that would not be deleted and I will not get sued!

I am a visual artist for my whole life, I worked with several media. Images are my world. I work as an art director, photographer, visual artist, designer.
As a visual artist I always worked with symbolic and conceptual images, specially in my videos and movies.
Cinema is the way the human been found to bring their dreams to reality. When we dream, we are directing and acting in our personal movies. A dream is very similar in structure to movies.

The first time I listened NIN was in the 90´s, I listened "Terrible Lies" and felt in love with the music. At that time I was studying John Cage (silence/noise/all noise can be music) and the music built in layers with noises really impressed me. Since them, NIN became my life´s soundtrack.

When I first listened Ghosts the idea that hit me was how come everything in the world after some time are just memories, images, ghosts. "Yesterday" is something that existed but don´t exists anymore, all we have are images and memories. "Tomorrow" also is something that don´t exist (yet), itw will briefly exist and then, it will pass. The only thing that always exist is "today", now, the moment you are reading this or watching this video. When is over, will be a memory, a ghost of what was.

This is the concept I worked in this video. Lifecycle, things in movement, becoming ghosts. I have this video in higher resolution, I formatted this one to fit youtube size.

Thank you Trent, for all music and for be the person you are. You are really an inspiration.

  • O interessante é não ver as imagens acumuladas, mas ver por entre elas.

  • I am impressed with your comment. It seems I managed to transmit my idea in this vid, thank you so much for your comment.

  • Yes, I am happy too. I saw several videos that are high quality, very well done. Trent is going to be happy. He definately deserve it.

  • I disagree with Benito. I think the images fit the song very well. I hear two layers in Ghosts I-IV: the melody and the percussion. That's why I liked your image overlap (2 sounds, 2 videos, all overlapping each other). The images mean to me that the world is trashed. The percussion/sludge footage is the brief "tomorrow" that you described in your description and the guitar/nature footage is the "memory/ghost". Cool vid.

  • Not a film student, but I can definitely say the footage is fitting and evocative. Very nice :) I'm happy to see the community is doing something cool for Trent because he's probably the most important artist in music today and I think he genuinely values his fans.

  • Oh my, Elias Merhige is one of the best experimentalists, I am so flattered, DA, thank you.
