The Hi-Point C9 9mm, although a great value, has feeding issues stemming solely from the magazine. I have three magazines, all which have the same issue. When four or more rounds are loaded into the magazine, the friction from the 9mm cartridges inhibits the topmost round from raising at an appropriate angle, causing the round to nose dive, entering the feed ramp at the very bottom, pointing the wrong direction. This means that a lot of force is needed to feed round into chamber, sometimes causing the slide to stay open, requiring a smack on the back of the slide to enter the new round. People have suggested bending the feed lips in such a way as to alleviate the problem, however, I have not had any luck in doing so. Again, I have three magazines, and the same problem exists with all three. Polishing the feed ramp on the pistol to reduce friction seems to help. It is not a huge issue, and I'm hoping the issue will resolve itself as the gun gets broken in. Nevertheless, Hi-Point should spend time on improving their magazines.

  • I have a .380 HiPoint that i have put about 100 rounds through and hadnt had this problem, untill a few days ago. I had a few jams in the first 100 rounds, but for the price i aint complaining. Went out sunday and for some reason had to keep smacking the slide to get the next bullet to feed. I shot probably 30 rounds and had to tap the slide a few times, even in the middle of the mag. I planned on Polishing my feed ramp anyways, so this just made it a little easier to do it....

  • @91stang308 by chance, are you shooting Tul-ammo through it? Tul-ammo has a "sticky" coating on their cases and will not feed through my c9 reliably.

  • i got the same prob. i polished the feeding ramp and fixed the tabs on my 3 clips and had 10 failure to feeds out of 150 fmj's

  • @95fordtbirdlx I haven't shot mine a lot lately, however, I haven't had a problem shooting "good" ammo through it--that is ammo that isn't under powered like federal champion. I still need to shoot more to see if it's broken in or not. If i were you id try 100 more rounds through it, and if still doesn't work contact hi-point. Nutnfancy has a video on the C9 and stated he had issues, but it was entirely fixed when hi-point sent him a new part 34 (hold open spring) for free.

  • Love all your videos on the Hi Points' I am buying a 40 S&W myself and was wondering where is a good forum location to discuss problems or questions I have with the Hi Point?

  • @surfbits I honestly don't know of any forums. All of my interactions about Hi-points, and other firearms, have been through youtube. A quick google search turned up hipointfirearmsforums (dot)com. Looks like a promising website. Let me know how you like your .40 when you get it..thanks.

  • This isn't really a good value if you really think about it.... After a 100 rounds it jams every other shot! I sold mine for a box of .40 cal value pack! Never gonna buy one again! Good luck with yours!

  • @basshoundusa

the first 2 boxes were winchester FMJ's and the last time i went out i used Federal Ammunition

  • When they're new you'll do a lot of slide smacking but this is because of the mentioned friction on the slide ramp due to hipoint's high-durability coating. It may protect it from rust or whatever but it needs a few rounds smacked across it to scrape from of that extra coating off before it starts firing smoothly. After my first 250 rounds I don't think I ever had to smack the slide again. Polishing it like some people do will also help.

  • @gdeisig What I've noticed is the more rounds you have in the mag, the more the round nose dives down, as you pointed out in your high-capacity mag. I think the rounds inside create too much friction for the spring to push the top round hard enough. I would be interested to see how a magazine lube would work, to decrease friction. I haven't tried this yet, because it hasn't been a huge issue. I figure, no jam, no foul. Of course I have had some jams in my c9, but not when using good ammo.
