Honduras: La Ceiba

Surrounded by pristine Caribbean coastline and Pico Bonito National Park, its no wonder the city of La Ceiba is considered the ecotourism capital of Honduras. Travelers to this northern coast destination discover outdoor adventures for every interest, including what many consider to be Central Americas best whitewater rafting on the Río Cangrejal. Cuero y Salado, one of Honduras most popular nature refuges, allows up-close views of native wildlife and unspoiled landscape. Visitors can also trace the towns historic beginnings during the banana industry boom of the late 1800s. Just off the coast of La Ceiba, the Cayos Cochinos marine reserve features spectacular snorkeling and tranquil island beaches.

Hey gcarlos...did it happen to you too? wow! When they grabbed my hair, pulling my head back and placed a sharp machete on my neck, I thought I would never come home again. When they put a machine gun to my face, I could almost feel the bullet passing through my head...What a horrible experience. And I went there with missionary ideas...to help the poor. Think twice when you go to Honduras...and there is no police to take care of these situations. I was lucky!

Don't fall for this...Honduras is an extremely dangerous country. I was abducted in Honduras, La Ceiba beaten to bleed and kept in a remote area in the mountain and instructed to call my family in the U.S. in order to send my captors money.

And the idea was, as I understand now, they normally kill their hostage after the money arrived. In my case the money did not arrive on time and I got a chance to escape.

Don't fall for these commercials. Think twice when travelling.
