We found traces of powder mildew in the vineyard and sprayed the vines with wettable sulphur and Kaligreen. Video shows example of how we sprayed using a backpack sprayer. It is important to spray the grapes and the leaves. Sulphur is a "protectorant" -- it can help prevent mildew, but does not erradicate it. Organic JMS Stylet oil can be used to help control a mildew infection that has already broken out. My best advice: Once of prevention worth a pound of cure. Don't let mildew break out in the first place.

  • MegaJim, Lime Suphur if for use only as a "dormant spray" in winter when there is no foilage on the vines. It is very "harsh", which is why it is used in winter, because my understanding is that it can actually eradicate mildew spores. Wettable sulphur is used when the vines have green leaves. Many winegrowers us it for the first and 2nd applications in the early spring, then switch to alternative sprays as the season progresses. Contact me justice (at) alliance (dash) intl (dot) com

  • Be sure and where a "gas mask" and safety goggles when doing this!

  • Is LIME SULPHUR more effective than wettable sulphur. I need a good downy mildew prevention....don't want to use harsh stuff. Can anyone help?

I read sulphur applications lower yields

  • @douglascatti Douglas, concerning the amount of Kaligreen, we strictly follow the dosage instructions on the label (which I don't have in front of me at the moment). This year, we're using organic JMS Stylet oil to combat an active infestation. This seems to be working well. The dilution, according to the label, is 1% to 2%, so, for a gallon, about 1.2 - 2.4 oz per gallon. See the latest video on "Spot Spraying In The Vineyard" to see how we used the stylet oil.
