This video, filmed in Alaska's Inside Passage in June 2008, captures an amazing once-in-a-lifetime experience. We were sailing aboard the 12-passenger Safari Spirit yacht with American Safari Cruises. After lunch one day we hopped in the yacht's skiff and trailed an orca pod, traveling quite fast, for nearly half an hour. Just magic!
The pod, including a baby whale, swam and breached in front of us and truly put on quite a show. Our skiff mirrored their speed and heading and we were treated to something very few people ever see. Stunning doesn't even begin to describe the experience. When the skiff started running low on fuel, we had to return to the Safari Spirit, but the orcas kept right on going.
