If you are a music composer, arranger, orchestrator, (film tv soundtracks) wanting to break into the business, there are a few things to consider as you prepare your reel.

  • Hey you didn't really address the subject. How to create the reel??

  • Yea....I guess I didn't. :} Take the best scene's from the projects that you have done and put them together as an audio disk. On the listing of the tracks put movie and director. The Reel.

  • @TalkMusicBiz So you're saying that making an audio disk is preferred over a DVD? Audio over video? Don't people want to see how the music works in the scene?

  • @DanielCiurlizza Actually I was talking about new composers that have not composed to picture yet. Yes, after you have done your first job, you should put together a DVD reel.

  • Lol. It's Steve Carell in a fatsuit.

  • i wouldnt mind makin a short film one day with my music...

  • Yeah, the percentages offered nowadays are staggeringly bad. You have to give away ALL the publishing, and - grab your buttcheeks - up to 70% of the writers' royalties. Still wanna be a composer?

  • scratchgolfgirl, a good business man and marketer gives something for free that in the end will be paid back one way or another,in the form of reputation and quality. There's a lot of competition on the internet and nowadays freebies can't be worthless.

But I agree about the quality of the information of these videos, very good snippets.

  • very good,thank you
