It wouldve been a scandel today with the sports media.
The other question is why did Wilt go out of the game in the first place? As Russell honestly said "nothing short of a bone sticking out should have gotten him out at that point in the game".
Wilt mightve been looking for an excuse because it looked like Russell and the Celts were going to beat them again.
Anyway the Lakers backup center came in and did pretty well.
Wilt never fouled out of a game. He was on the bench late because 1) He had hurt his knee with about 5:40 left, and 2) Coach Bill Van Brenda Kolff, in a battle of egoes all year, kept Wilt on the bench even though Wilt had signaled to the coach that he was able and eager to re-enter the game. Coach chose to snub WIlt and try and win it without him.
That Van-Breda-Douche was a nutcase to do that to Wilt. Absolute nutcase, I tell you. That's gotta be one of the worst coaching/managerial blunders in sports history.
This is what cost the lakers the 1969 championship.
1.Jack Kent Cooke filling the forum rafters with ballons and getting the celtics fired up. 2.Butch Van Breda Kollf not putting Wilt Chamberlain in the late in the game. 3.Don Nelsons basket that bounced high off the rim and dropped in.

40 years later and I'm still sick over this loss.
