The iconic Queensland Grouper or Giant Grouper is a protected species and the largest reef fish on the Great Barrier Reef. The Cairns Marine team has collected a large specimen under special permit for display in a public aquarium for conservation and educational purposes. They are now moving this huge fish, over 2 meters in length, to a temporary holding tank where it will be acclimated and treated for parasites prior to being shipped to its new home in the public aquarium.

  • the comment that it died 1 hour later, can someone from cairnsmarine confirm if this is true

  • @megafishtank1 We have reported that comment as spam, the person that posted that comment is somewhat like a starfish, they talk out of the same orifice that also excretes bodily waste. The underwater shots were actually taken two weeks after the fish was released into the tank, the fish was in great health and did very well.

  • this fish can feed an entire african village for half a year!!!

  • @fupenjiu or, alternately it could be seen in a public aquarium by over 3 million people per year and help educate them about the wonders of our marine environment and the need to conserve them! Thanks for viewing!

  • This Fish is huge.I am a fish ceeper myself this big guy does not look well ... I HOPE IT OK .... =(

  • @loonerMoonLover , Don't worry this fish was fine, the pictures of the fish from an underwater perspective was taken a couple of weeks after the initial placement in the tank and you can see that it was exhibiting normal colouration at this point.

  • Is this one of those groupons that keep sending the offers out?

  • @cairnsmarine how long did it survive then? As you said it 'did' very well.

  • @helmut345

is not i think you can see the news africa has the highest population to feed and thats why with more food they would bloom much much faster than what they are doing now at 'normal rate'.

  • @ilovefishful No more food would to the opposite. Why do you think poorer countries has a grater puppulation increase?

  • that thing died 1 hour after this video

  • @SPBTsnyder

i am not racist but the popuation of africa has been bomming too fast so with more food it would bloom faster thus this help to keep population under control

  • @ilovefishful racist imbecile, why would you say africans should eat shit??

  • @SPBTsnyder

african should eat shit eat themselves even if i feed people i would feed america or asia cause they are much more'qualified to eat'but seriously this fish is so nice i would rather preserve it even when it dies i would still preserve it as a national heritage for the marine biologist

  • @ilovefishful who are you to say, that people are not "fit" to eat?

  • @SPBTsnyder

i prefer feeding animals who need more than humans to eat rather than waster the magnificent fish to people who are not fit to eat

  • @cairnsmarine i prefer feeding people who need to eat, rather than teaching people who DONT need to be teached.

  • @fupenjiu

african village should eat shit this life of the fish is so much more valuable than the africans

  • Really a magnificent looking creature.

  • hey look... a concentration camp for fish lol

  • @loonerMoonLover no worriers, it was in a temporary state of shock. It should be better now.
