From the Sept. 23, 1970 episode, Woody Guthrie's son does a short duet with Cash on "Oklahoma Hills," then plays "I Could Be Singing" by himself and "Down To The Valley To Pray" with the Cash show ensemble.

NOTE: This is from the same episode that also featured Ray Charles (whose appearance on the Cash show is already all over the web) and Liza Minelli. My guess is, the network told Cash, "Liza has a special coming up - she WILL appear on your show" and Cash said, "Alright, then I want Arlo and Ray Charles, too."

I liked the orchestra. It fit the scene, at least this once. Not always, ofcourse :)

  • I Could Be Singing is still a revelent protest song & so beautiful.

  • just imagine a whole duet album by Johnny and Arlo... that would've been amazing =)

  • "Down To The Valley To Pray" probably would have been much better with just Arlo, the piano, and the singers. Wonder who was responsible for the cheesy orchestral accompaniment?

  • @twinoak170 - Ditto. I've been SO IN LOVE with Arlo's "Washington County" album for over forty years.

  • He's so freakin' awesome!!

  • I go see Arlo whenever he comes to town. Love his storytelling.

  • I never Arlo Guthrie could play the piano. You learn something new aver day.
