A Hawaiian student looks at the plastic items found in stomaches of albatrosses, ingested from the Pacific ocean. Interesting video from BBC show Hawaii - Message in the Waves. Heres an idea! Why arent shows like this made into adds that are on mainstream TV to educate the pulblic??? Because it costs too much? Because everything we use is plastic and its too hard to change? It seems a simple idea for goverments to adopt. When a problem like this is just left to grow we are truly a doomed scociety. I feel sorry for us all, we are just pawns of the corporate world and we really seem to have no controll over what to do about it.

Welcome to life in the modernized world, but as it has been stated man will destroy himself. Of course you will never see this educational and informative stuff via the mainstream media.

“Plastics will prove the worst, most insidious invention of humanity. Plastics kill everything and anything in their path on all four corners of the planet. Plastics kill without violence, without warning and without provocation. Plastics float, sink and never break down. Of all of humanity’s folly on this green planet, plastics take the trophy for man’s inhumanity to all other life on Earth.” FHW, scuba diver and 6 continent world bicycle traveler

The problem is not wit plastic itself but with the disposal of it. Municpalities (cities) have been using the oceans as garbage pits for a long time and many likely still do. Ships dump garbage overboard as well and I am sure most still do.Although not ideal land fills are better and recycling is the best. It needs a lot of public education and personal committment from us all.

You can now get eco tooth brushes, made from wood with natural bristles and all completely bio degradible. In my opinion they produce the same results so why not go for the smarter, more ecologically friendly option :)

I can see the answers... back to the old days of refillable lighters and paper dolls. I'm not sure how to replace toothbrushes...
