We are perpetualizing a culture that does not belong to us and by doing so, we can not be respected as Filipinos cause we don't have our own identity. So wake up my fellow Filipino-Americans, put sense in your head, no matter how much you assimilate the american culture into your life, you still are Filipinos... look at yourselves in the mirror. Enough said.

@jlbelloso Filipino is a citizenship and an ethnicity NOT a race. Besides, every American's ancestry came from other countries.

I just have a question??? What is american culture? Independence day? thanksgiving? a Yankees game? Filipinos have true culture, a true history, their own dances and music... Be proud to have a great past and don't settle for the bbq in the backyard...

@jokway, very smart, clear and put to thought well!! I think that you are what all filipinos need to become; with this state of mind, our people would better ourselves and our home land would repair to become what it should be!

Great video. Very well articulated. You rock, bro.

I'm Filipino but unfortunate I'm cofeuse with my life and I don't know what to do?

@TouchOfPurple i forgot to add pure breed filipinos who grew up in motherland

you'll barely come across a filipino with an ethnic sounding name like koreans or indians. a lot of adult filipinos who came here in us don't follow the mano po tradition and they don't make their kids use po or opo. they think a lot of their customs are backward way of thinking. honestly and sadly for most filipinos the more americanized you are and i'm talking about white americans the more cultured you are.

i guess fil-ams are really more proud of their heritage than pure breed filipinos. atenistas (ateneo de manila students) or lasallitas (de la salle students) would rather talk in english than in tagalog even tho they're in p.i. in recent pinoy telenovelas one way to insult someone big time is to say something sarcastic in eng. last names like ulan or maharlika or names like mutya or ligaya are look down upon.

Yes, i always remember, and i always thank God for them. I always wonder how scared they were, leaving the world they grew up in. They tell me stories about how the first time they took subway trains in NYC and Queens, and got lost. They didn't know who to ask for help. A huge sacrifice indeed. Thanks for your post :)

The biggest challenge facing Filipino culture is colonial mentality. Filipinos were colonized for 400 years by Spain, 50 years by America. Our culture was nearly eradicated. Colonial mentality continues to chip away at our culture. For instance, look at ABS-CBN programs. All the actors/actresses look white. Average Filipinos are severely underrepresented to tv. If you see a dark Filipino, he is usually the villain or servant.
