Individual Designs is a Hawaii-based watch brand designed by Mark Carson. Their first watch is the Ka La, and it is quite original. At launch the Ka La watch comes in at least eight versions. Price is $1,200.

That "IIII" is only used on clocks and watches bugs me. I knew the historical reasons (at least what is usually attributed anyway - refer to Wikipedia for details). But outside of that obscure origin and possible reasons, the roman number for 4 is "IV" for everything else. So I had my dial maker do it this way instead of what they normally cast up. That's the fun part of doing your own watches. You can resist the stuff that bugs you! Cheers -- Mark

"Ka La" means "The Sun". But you are right, the pidgin word "kala" does mean money as it is the Hawaiian/pidgin equivalent of "dollah" (dollar). A bit of an intentional double entendre that I figured only a few people would pick up on and hopefully find amusing.
