Randy Newman, 2008 "Down In New Orleans"

Just a little bit of Randy Newman doing the theme song from the upcoming Disney film "The Princess and the Frog." I believe it is titled "Down In New Orleans" He told the audience that he recorded the song the day before with Dr. John on vocals. He mentioned before the song that he's known Dr. John for 40 years or even more. (sorry I missed recording the beginning of the talk, but it is Dr. John he is referring to.) Live at the 2008 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival.

I'll have to disagree. Newman's "sound" fits the whole fact that the story takes place in Louisiana in the 1920's.

Alan Menken's too contemporary for it.

Why all the hate? This song is fine. Just because Alan Menken didn't write it doesn't mean it's bad. There are other composers about there.

@Spudfish93 I know his voice is bad in the films but Toy Story etc. was after the 1990's. He's been around since the 60's. Also you have to understand that the music has to fit the film, which is normally Disney. Try and compare 'The Natural' soundtrack and 'You've Got A Friend In Me' or 'Nothings Gonna Stop Us Now'. They are completely different. Obviously you've just seen a couple of Disney movies and decided that all his stuff sounds the same. Look into things before making assumptions.

I didn't say his music annoyed me, I said it was his voice.

I didn't say his music in general is repetitive, I said it was his movie soundtracks.

I don't listen to his stuff so how can I possibly form an opinion on it?

@Spudfish93 No, you go and listen to his early work that's not from movies. 'Short People', 'It's Money That I Love', 'Mama Told Me Not To Come', 'You Can Leave Your Hat On'. This guy is probably the best lyrics writer in America today, talking about racism, religion, greed and inequality. He is praised by many many popular musicians and people in the industry. You obviously don't know what you're talking about.

I Love Alan Menken, but I Agree Randy Newman's style fit's the setting much more. Do I think that Menken could haved done wonders with the movie? Yes, But Newman was a fine choice as well.
