Saturday night, Sandy Fonzo had a chance to tell the world her story. Fonzo was interviewed by Don Lemon on CNN, live from the WBRE studios.

Fonzo is known for her face to face confrontation with former Luzerne County Judge Mark Ciavarella as he walked out of federal court a freeman on Friday.

Fonzo says her son -23 year old son, Ed Kenzakoski shot himself in the heart nine months ago after being sent away by Ciavarella. Kenzakoski was locked up for 6 months on drug paraphernalia charges when he was 17.

Fonzo remembers, "When he came out of there he was just never the same. He was just pent up with anger and bitterness and resentment."

That built up anger led Kenzakoski to a few other run-ins with the law. Fonzo says the system never tried to help her son. It just continued to beat him down. "There was never any kind of help. He never looked at each as an individual. He just lined them up and shackled them and they were taken away."

Then last June, without warning, Kenzakoski took his life.

On Friday when Fonzo got word the jury had found Ciavarella guilty on 12 counts, she rushed to the courthouse so she could see him leave in handcuffs. But when that didn't happen, she lost it.

Fonzo said, "Everything that I was saying to him, he wouldn't even turn and look at me. I was yelling at the back of his head. And then when I poked his shoulder because I wanted him to look at me. He turned and gave me no respect."

Fonzo just hopes her story will reach other families and that it will give them the courage to speak up at Ciavarella's sentencing. "The only reason I'm doing this now is I want all those families there and I want to get some justice for our kids. I want him to pay for what he did."

Ciavarella faces a maximum sentence of 157 years in jail.

  • @Wolfboy183 Shit, it'll never happen in this world. If that fucker does any time at all it'll be in a federal country club with better amenities than your average health spa.

If Ed Kenzakoski had been my son, the judge wouldn't have made it to his car. I would sneak up and dump half a dozen .45's in his ass and any one else who got in my way.

Sure, someone might kill me in the process, but it's a small price to pay for justice when you consider all the lives he's ruined.

  • @StoogeWatcher omg i highly doubt he was like "im a democrat so I want to fuck up peoples lives" if he was a republican he wouldnt be like "im a republican so I want to fuck up peoples lives". HE is just a bad person. POLITICS had little to nothing about his ruling.

  • A truly horrific story, but I don't think there would be as much press and/or sympathy if this were a black kid whose life spiraled downhill after being arrested and incarcerated on first-offense drug charges.
