The voice-mail response critic Jim DeRogatis got from Ryan Adams after Jims not-so-positive review of one of Adams shows. Using discography as video, but the audio is the point...
Some quotes from the review:
"Note to Ryan Adams: Wish you were anywhere but here"
"Adams can release three CDs in a three-week span, but the fact remains that he still can't write one song as original or as heartfelt as anything by Jeff Tweedy."
"Absent an historical musical context or a functioning b.s. detector, it is possible to mistake Adams for being as talented and clever as he thinks he is. But then there are plenty of people who can't tell the difference between plastic flowers and real ones, until they bend over to take a whiff."
"The fans (who skewed younger than Adams) ate it all up, but you had to suspect that it was because they'd never seen the real Courtney, much less the Replacements or even Wilco."

Ryan Adams is a douche. He already has fame and fortune. He doesn't need to call a critic because he had bad reviews. Led Zeppelin got terrible reviews in their day but they never would do something like this. And Led Zeppelin was way more creative than Ryan Adams. I am an aspiring singer songwriter and I would love to be in the position that Ryan Adam's career is in.

Though he comes across as congenial and I appreciate his enthusiasm, Jim DeRogatis is a complete and total idiot. Total. He calls Louis Post from Veruca Salt a "guitar god" and Bowie a "B list rock star" Just a few recent examples.

I'm not a fan of Ryan Adams. But I do think it's a pretty fucking petty thing to do, to release to the public a personal telephone message. I don't give a shit that he's a rock star. And I don't give a shit that DeRogatis is a music critic. It's just a fucking petty, slimey thing to do. Rock critics are always doing things for the wrong reasons ... there's always politics and agendas behind their reviews. Too bad when DeRogatis left Rolling Stone, he took its dirty tricks mentality with him.

True. I'll always be a diehard Ryan follower, for the fact that his music and writing has helped me on a personal level, to get through so much personal shit...and for that I thank him. Whenever I go into a record store these days, the mainstreamer chart bile that they play is so bad, I have to come home and listen to real tunes such as Ryan, or The Cure, or Knopfler, or Hendrix simply to restore some clarity. Thank whoever that we have real artists there to guide us along.

Can you even imagine how many musicians want to lay into these self righteous know it all's that pretty much don't know shit? How have these types managed to remain in existence, seriously.
Our local underground newspaper passed off Queen in the beginning days like they were some average band that relied too much on guitar effects. If it's your job to recognize talent and greatness good fricking lord shouldn't you actually be able to do that?
