this is possibly the 'claim' which upsets/annoys me the most. That to be considered anorexic or whatever, you must fit into a certain weight category...so so wrong. An eating disorder is a mental problem, the body changes due to the effects of the disorder, but those changes are not THE disorder....am i making sense? Basically, you can be any weight and suffering from an eating disorder, and no matter what your weight, you are always worthy of receiving help and treatment.

  • this made me cry...when i was small, people cared...now that im big i purge more than ever and no one seems to notice...::sigh:: thanks for posting this...

  • hugs, i really feel for you. be assured that even when you feel like no-one notices or cares, there will be someone who does. always. x

  • your totally right! But no one gets it, like i told my friend id been diagosed with anorexia (via email cus she was out of the country) and she rang me in tears thinking i was like 5 stone, people just assume! And i hate having being diagnosed with anorexia i feel guilty bcus i dont feel thin and just because my bmi is 16.5 or whatever i am called anorexic and my friends look at me probably and think 'shes not anorexic' lol i hate it all!!

  • iknow how you feel, the sad part is that you probally cant see how thin you are. but i agree with you that is annoying how people jump to assumptions. the assumption, 'oh she isnt looking incredibly thin, she must be better now', is another stupid one! you dont need to feel guilty about being diagnosed. guilty feelings are for when we have done something wrong, and you have done nothing wrong. i hope you are doing ok? x

  • This issue has been so frustrating to me for years. I remember going to my best friends and my mom back in college and letting them know that I hadn't eaten more than 200 calories a day for two weeks and had dropped 20 pounds. My mom just said I was overreacting and she had done the same thing when she was younger. My friends said that I was still eating, so it was no big deal. I've never really spoken about my food issues since. I just deal with it alone. :-\

  • Great video and medical and psychiatric professional should watch it!

I was at a BMI of 15 and still getting my periods. Because of that I didn't get the diagnosis of anorexia.

I think we have Oprah and Dr. Phil for perpetuating what "anorexic" looks like.

    Good job!

  • @ToiletBowlAffair I understand sweetie. people expressed way more concern when I was skinny. Since I gained weight, I just get remarks from my father about my fat ass and no one believes that I'm struggling...despite the fact that I'm sicker than ever.

  • Wow, great vid. Can you show some tits or minge?

  • @alicen657 GET A DICTIONARY

  • You are so right :) I totally agree

  • @alicen657 of course you could be bulimic if you were 200 pounds overweight. You could be EDNOS. You wouldn't be diagnosed with anorexia, but being overweight does not mean you don't have an eating disorder.

  • Hey :) Good video and I totally agree. I have had an ed for what seems like an age. It took years to admit but I was never really taken too seriously by my Dr (probably because Im a guy and I look healthy) I have recently lost a LOT of weight in a short period of time and the first thing my dr said was "wow, that belt would go round you 3 times" followed by "sit down and let me listen to your pulse"

It would appear you have to be at the extreme end of the scale for any kind of help :(

  • So very true. Even more frustrating if u have bulimia or EDNOS where your weight may be normal or even overweight. That in itself may prevent you contacting the medical profession at all for fear of not being believed.

I'm so very sorry that your GP was so blinkered. I know what it took for you to speak the truth. (((hugs)))

  • It's crazy, they force people to get down to a crazy low weight before they try to get that person help. Until they reach that "super skinny" point they don't worry. In fact often people who are larger who have anorexia just get complimented on their weight loss. It's sad. People need to be more observant and not encourage eating disorders.

  • @tails70 At least in the UK treatment is available, even if you have to wait. In the US, most insurance companies will not cover residential treatment. Mine covers only 3 days of treatment in a general psych ward - not an eating disorders ward - and 20 counseling appointments a year - that's a one hour appointment only every 18 days! When I think about all the people who have died from this disease or who are struggling to live with it because they cannot afford treatment, I feel sick.

  • eating disorders aboustly totally have a weight say i am like 200 pounds overweight wouldn't it be funny if i said i had bulmia or anrexia well in realted i did i use to be 92 at 15 and 5'3
