Willie Mae "Big Mama" Thornton (December 11, 1926 -- July 25, 1984) was an American rhythm and blues singer and songwriter. She was the first to record the hit song "Hound Dog" in 1952.

Actually two Jews wrote this song, Jerry Leiber and Mike Stroller. They wrote many R&B hits in the late 1940s and 1950s. Rock n' Roll is just R&B played faster. Let's be realistic please. I like Rock n Roll and traditional R&B. Today's R&B is bullshit.

@3salamanders At the time of this posting I was only using a few stock pictures I had...It is Josephine Baker....Standard picture at that time used for my blues and jazz.
