Prof. Malik Mufti: "What we're seeing now is indeed a revolution in a discrete subsystem—the Arab World—a revolution as fundamental as the European precedent. But in the same way, there is going to be a great deal of variation...This is a real normative paradigm break. New concepts that really had never been in play before—the idea of popular sovereignty, political order—as flowing from the will of the people, being legitimized by the authority. The most common chant in these revolutions was 'The people want the regime to fall.'"
