Wow, people who say using stock imagery is a cop out should try being a graphic designer. What if they designer wants a picture of the eiffel tower in the project? Are you telling me you'll fly to Paris to take a photo of the tower then fly back. Oh, but wait! You're taking a picture of art that was made by someone else, I guess you'll have to design your own eiffel tower. Maybe you'll just buy a stock photo for a few bucks, no? Cop out, get real.

You don't know a lot about stock imagery do you?
The photographer has agreed to have his picture used as stock imagery. It's not plagiarism at all.
If someone took my art without my permission I'd be mad, but the artist (photographer) agreed to these terms. He's still getting paid. Many images you see in magazines are stock photos. They are sold by outlets like Getty Images and Corbis
Go to webopedia and search Stock Photo.

What is silly about it? Not saying being a good fine artist is easy but anyone can call themselves a fine artist and not have to explain their work. Expressing yourself is much easier when you don't have to answer to anyone. Not sure whats silly about that. You obviously aren't a designer or you would have some kind of understanding of this.

There is fine art and there is graphic design. Graphic design is hard because its not about self expression or the artists own fulfilment.. This is a different type of creativity and I would say a much more difficult kind. This is about problem solving on many different levels. Budget, deadline, taking direction, and trying to keep all parties happy. It's a very difficult thing to do and to do it well is even harder. Lauren is a phenomenal designer and very skilled at her craft.

If this is a bit fast to follow, download VLC player for free and then 'youtube downloader'. Hit the share button and paste the code into the downloader which will dump a VLC version on your hard drive. Run the movie at half speed and everything is easy to follow.

@ solidus - People who say stock imagery is the way to go should look up the artist monet or degas. What happened to the honor in making art? They lived and breathed it. Fast and easy is not always better. It absolutely and positively takes away from the beauty of creating. Sure it looks nice and can easily be slapped on a book but the intimacy is lost. But I guess graphic designers don't know a thing about that.
