When treyarch first announced that the next installment in the call of duty franchise was going back to World War 2 a lot of people were skeptical, including me. They had questions as to why the hell treyarch decided to go back to WW2 when infinity ward, the developers of call of duty 4, already went to modern warfare, which was received very highly by the critics and the fans. I know a few people that werent even interested in world at war simply because of the time era, but I looked past that and gave it a rent, and im glad I did! When you start up the single player everything will look and feel familiar nothing has changed as far as the controls go and it still utilizes the Call of Duty 4 engine. The Single player campaign is spectacular and a whole lot of fun! You play as either Private Petrinko on the Russian side or as Private Miller on the American front. I personally loved playing on the Russian side simply there was a lot more diversity in the levels and it had an awesome sniper mission, and Im a sucker for sniper missions. But The American Missions are no slouch either; its a lot of fun once you get the all powerful Flamethrower although it can get a bit repetitive during the Trench Missions which bored me a few times. Another thing I loved about the single player is the ability to play with your friends either on or offline, It makes the experience so much better and its a lot of fun to see who can rack up the most points in the mission by either getting the most headshots or reviving your teammates the most, I probably spent the most time in Co-op than anything else because its the experience that kept on giving. Now as far as the Competitive Multiplayer portion, call of duty 4 veterans will feel right at home and get to leveling and prestiging right away, Youll see a few new perks but as well see some familiar ones such as Bullet penetration and the infamous Martydom. All your favorite game modes are back such as search and destroy and team death match, as for the maps their really good and diverse so you wont have a problem spending countless hours on them. So if you already prestiged for the 10th time on Call of duty 4 you might as well pick up WaW to hold you over till Killzone 2 or Modern warfare 2. Oh yea, theres also a Nazi zombie mode which feels like a dumbed down version of Left 4 dead but it does a pretty good job to give you a sense of survival horror. I give it 8.5 out of 10
