My first trip off station, and how excited I was. Lush green hills, wildlife everywhere, a bit of freedom......thats what I thought.
The first day was great, we headed off from station around the east coast by the shore, past seals, penguins, petrels, memorial graves for some ANARE heroes and some giant old digesters, used by sealers to extract oil from seals. Crashed the night at Brother Point in the egg shaped hut. Nice and easy.
Then the second day wasn't too bad, not as easy as the first day. A hike up a hill to the main track and over boggy marsh to Waterfall Bay.
The third day was when the legs started to hurt and the shoulders ached with pain. It was an exceptionally good day, except for the negative air temperature! Some work at Mt Jeffreys to fix the VHF repeater (with out any luck I may add) and down to Hurd Point for the night......
Then there was the forth day........the day I never want to revisit in all my life....I reckon if I see Hell it will be this day on loop. Im not even going to talk about it.
