Have you ever seen some of the US University marching bands? (USC doesn't count...) There are some directors (Jay Rees of U of A comes to mind) that delight in making the band run through all forms of odd footwork.

Hey! Pachuco! Nice moves lol only a non american band could do that without looking like a fool. :( We played this last year :)

I belive (playing both brass and woodwind) that many people share your attitude, but I also know that the best marching bands are the bands who manage to bring out the woodwinds by playing balanced and disciplined. For example I had the fortune of seeing the kings gaurd of norway a few weeks ago, and they managed to play in such a manner that you could hear every single instrument. That is marching band perfection in my opinion! To have the guts to just play really loud all the time *hint*

hahaha hell yeah man. See thats the kinda attitude winners have. I do understand you man, orchestral music definitely needs woodwinds, but when It comes to corps, let the brass and percussion do what its good at =]

i mean dont get me wrong classical orchestral music, woodwinds are needed. (not including phantom regiment). But I am a trumpet player and i can put play a drumline that consists of 5 snares, 3 tenors, and 5 basses. i think i could out play a shit load more of woodwinds lol

Dude I so couldn't agree more, Im marching Corps. this year and its gonna be different not having any woodwinds to torture with water balloons LOLZ
Japan is the best of all the marching band countries.

that may be, what im trying to get across is why put an instrument on the field or in the lines if your not gonna be able to hear it at all? Im not dissing woodwinds man, I happen to play saxophone when I have spare time. Im just saying that if your gonna put something on the field IT NEEDS TO BE HEARD!! Hehe HELL YEAH! thats what music is man, expressing yourself so everyone can hear you. and me personely LOVE TO BE HEARD. Im just sayin, put em where they can be heard.
