  • the shopkeeper offered me at 65 yuan a piece for a inner painted miniature bottle, told her i will buy 30 pcs, as it was meant for gifts back home and ask for 5 yuan, she yelled, saying cannot, i said forget it and walk away, moments later she asked me to come back and it's a deal 30 pcs at 5 yuan each.

    What a deal...LOL

  • @rpottsch no they think they stupid and dont know how to haggle. myself i say 50% if not walk they will come back and kiss your feet and then you start with them.

  • No. They are betting on the fact that you are stupid, and don't know how much things cost in China. Most markets are visited by tourists (NOT locals) who have a lot of spare cash, and they capitalise on that.

You just have to take the price that you're used to paying in your country, replace the dollar sign with a RMB sign, and then you have the REAL chinese price.

If something costs $5 in your country, then it will cost 5-10 RMB in China. This works for everything except brand names.

  • you should always start ridiculously low in prices and you should always go down when the sales person makes it higher. you yourself should never go up in price. and if you don't want to go higher, walk away. they often come running after you. they will never sell you something for less than they know it's worth!!

that's how i do it atleast. :) and it's always easier to set a start price if you know what you would pay for the thing in other places.

  • Did you see the sign of "Advocated words" and "forbidden words" on the wall? Haha! I think they only said the forbidden words to me. Things like: "Are you crazy?!" "Do you have a fever?" After they were all really nice though. Beijing rules!!

  • Always demand a discount, if you don't ask for one, you wont get one! Good job.
