If you get a 230g bullet much more than 1000 fps out of a .45acp you are REALLY pushing it. But yes you are right, a heavier/faster bullet will penetrate more, but that isn't the whole story.
You have to take into account sectional density too. A 230g .30 cal bullet will penetrate MUCH more than a 230g .45 cal bullet at the same speed. Simply a matter of more mass behind a smaller profile. Less resistance.

@jeeprat You don't want the bullet to go through on a man stopper. A bullet flattening out and stopping dead inside someone's guts is what you want if it's a life or death situation.
