This is some gameplay from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone on the PlayStation.

Published by Electronic Arts and developed by Argonaut Software, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone is, contrary to the general rule that video games based on movies tend to suck, a really good game. The controls are solid, the graphics and sound are atmospheric and the presentation is excellent. The level design is inventive, the challenges are fun and the gameplay is just great overall.

Despite all of this, the game was panned by critics. It received low review scores across the board for seemingly no reason. Perhaps it's because the game is, well, kind of ridiculous. This video alone appropriately showcases the true absurdity of the entire game. Even so, it's a moronic reason to denounce the game. If the gameplay is fun, the absurdity should not matter.

If you happen to spot the PS1 version of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone lying in a bargain bin, give it a purchase. It isn't the best game on the PlayStation, but it's a fun little adventure that is worth experiencing.

  • Gawd... I loved this game! I'm sure Ubisoft got it's inspiration for Assassin's Creed from the jumping parts of this game XD

  • @CrusoeC66 I'm pretty sure Ubisoft got its inspiration from its own last-generation Prince of Persia series, which was in turn inspired by the original 2D PoP game.

Of course, that was probably blatant sarcasm, but I agree with you about this game being good. :D

  • wow, their mouths actually moved when they talked. if i remember correctly not many ps1 games had that.

  • @AMGarska Hell, Metal Gear Solid didn't even have that.

Of course, this was one of the later PS1 games, so that may have something to do with it.

  • wtf is the sorecer's stone? it called the philosophers stone! nuh!

  • @scouser96100 I'll explain. For the American market, J.K. Rowling decided to name the book "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" because she thought most Americans would not pay money for a book about a philosopher. Naturally, the name was used for the movie and game as well when the time came.

Personally, I prefer the American name. It sounds more magical.

  • 2:16 I remember from the debug language collection on the PC version that the part where Dumbledore speaks about the third floor corridor was deleted.

  • @Luxifer5 exactly why I am watching this video right now :)

  • if im completely honest the first 2 HP games on the ps1 beat all other harry potter games today as the ones today try to be over complicated but surely what made them so good was the simplicity of them :D in a way there is a level of difficulty as some of the cards were hard to get such as the gringotts banks vault cards .

thumbs up if u agree they were awesome games and that everyone is wayyy to negative :D
