This demo from 1984 absolutely epitomizes everything the 1980's represented in the U.S. So instead of VH pics, I figured I'd show some of the most popular images from that decade.

  • Well, it is Eddie Van Halen. I wouldn't consider this more pop than "Jump".

  • OMG, the ending credits from the 'wild life'... I've never fucking forgetten this riff by him

  • Could have been sort of a 'Jump- instrumental reprise' for the closing track on the 1984 album maybe???

  • where can i get this?

  • I know they clashed back then because of these synthesizers, but you can't deny that Eddie's synth did inspire/influence DLR a little (pun intended) for the "A little ain't enough" track on his solo 1991 album. There's a small synth solo on that track around 2:50 where it sounds EXACTLY like this song. Look it up.

  • This is the end title credits for the film "The Wild Life" which also featured Eddie's 'Donut City'.

  • @tylerdurden3891 I agree, and so many blind DLR followers try to make it a DLR versus Sammy issue.

Oddly enough, although Dave supposedly didn't want to use keyboards, he did just that in some of his songs after he left VH.

There are also those that accuse Sammy of making VH music too much like pop. Yet DLR's music after VH was a bit like pop. I remember hearing DLR after he left VH on the pop stations as much as on the rock stations, if not more so.

I prefer VH with Sammy, and DLR after VH.

  • @YodaVanGrindey95 I always laugh when I see the "Sammy changed the band" comments. Ed wanted to use the keys since '81. Re-listen to the last 2 tracks on "Fair Warning" or listen to his phone interview from 1982 and hear right from Ed himself. Ed WANTED to play keys & Dave didn't like that. It's the reason why dave quit/was fired in the 1st place. Face it Dave lovers, even if Sam never joined, the music would've turned out exactly the same. Except it would've been Dave singing "Dreams", not Sam.

  • @YodaVanGrindey95 I´ll agree to that but in 83-84 we had the us festival 83 and their release off 1984 wich has has four off their best songs...

  • @eddiehalenvan 1979-1986 was Van Halens best time period, then Sammy kinda turned them poppy, and people say that it doesn't matter they got more #1's its not about that! I have more fun playing Lee Roth Era songs on guitar than hagar! Anyway, yeah they got turned into pop, and now they're supposedly trying to make a new album with Roth!
