Most states I have lived in all say stop at the stop sign, clearly marked stop line or follow a police order. Then too, 49 out of 50 states have uniform traffic laws.
I'm surrprised that Iowa does not have that law.. As the stop sign is just before the crosswalk.
A lot of states I lived in requires to stop at the sign. Going past the sign is considered running it. Stopping behind a car that stopped does not count.
A few states say stop before a crosswalk (upto 20 feet).
Stop before crossing a sidewalk.
Before I could get my licenese I had to sit in traffic court.. The judge told many people to stop for 3 seconds (wheels not turning).....
A few years ago I heard a statistic that only 7% of drivers routinely stop properly at stop signs and red lights. From counting when the 'fails' and 'passes' I'd think that's about right, but can't track down or confirm the source of the number. Anyone know of something similar in your jurisdiction?
Did anyone stop properly? Maybe I'm not seeing this from the right angle, not understanding what marks on the pavement constitute the crosswalk, or misunderstanding something about this state's traffic laws. But it looks to me like the two cars that got a 'pass' (green SUV at 0:37 and green Taurus at 1:38) both stopped with their bumpers in the crosswalk.
