Here is a large Helve hammer running at a museum in Vista CA in their blacksmith building. The hammer is powered by a 10 HP IHC Mogul engine.

  • It does appear to be running backwards doesn't it?

  • Running BACKWARD! Slack-belt tightener needs to be on slack side of belt. Notice toward the end when he's trying to get the hammer to lift, as the belt tightens it pushes the idler away. not a big deal, but it takes a big load off your leg.

  • nice, never seen a powerhammer of thi kind.

  • F-I-F-T-E-E-N horsepower. I can get a picture of the tag if you don't believe me.

  • Pwnd.

  • 10 horse, i am running it for the spring conference this year.

  • I've seen that before. Only time I'd made it to Vista for the show. Had quite a few good old stationary engines, like a 100hp Holt, couple of Fairbanks-Morse, and a couple of Westerns.

  • 15 horsepower Mogul actually. One of four known to exist. How did you like the show Bill?
