The last part with the particle on top could, in a way, also illustrate QM tunneling. Classically, a particle can't breach an energy barrier higher than the particle's kinetic energy, but we know they do.
The membrane on top could be the barrier, with the particle doing a Doors "Break on Through" to the other side.
Who knows? Maybe atoms have ultra-tiny popcorn poppers that explode a kernel now and then:-)
This shows how pressure can control the state which matter is in.
